eBay Ultra Rare! Antique 1870s-1890s 24” Hand Carved Hollow Wood Canada Goose Decoy. This goose decoy was purchased from one of the largest antique dealers in Southern Ontario, Clappison Corners Antiques in Flamborough Ontario. It was part of a large collection of goose and duck decoys that we acquired (please see our other items). This goose decoy was most likely carved by Dan Jones. Another example very similar to this goose is in the Canadian Museum of History. That piece was donated to the Canadian Museum Of History in Gatineau Quebec by the estate of decoy enthusiast Dr. Jim Stewart of Etobicoke Ontario. Resting alert neck, rounded breast, hand carved flat bottom Canada goose. Very well detailed. Original paint. Hollow wood body filled with cork slabs. The cork under the decoy is very fragile. No eyes. There two patches of leather tacked to the side if the decoy, most likely where feathers could be pinned. There is a letter “A” stamped into the top of the goose. Extremely rare piece of history.Part of a collection of antique decoy collection that was acquired.
